For children under 18 whose primary caregiver passes the means test

Paid per qualifying child. Amounts rose with the 2026/2027 Budget figures published alongside the official payment schedule, confirm the current rate on sassa.gov.za before you budget.

For South Africans over 60 who pass the means test

Usually paid first each month in SASSA’s three-day stagger. You do not need a private pension history. Apply in person with ID and income proof.

For people with disabilities that prevent work

Requires a SASSA medical assessment and supporting reports. Often paid on the second day of the monthly schedule after Older Persons grants.

For caregivers of children with severe disabilities

Separate from Child Support Grant. You need medical evidence that the child requires permanent care. Apply at a SASSA office with the child’s documents.

For court-appointed foster parents

Not the same as Child Support Grant, you need an official foster care court order. Bring the order and the child’s documents when you apply.

Temporary relief for unemployed adults who meet checks
