Learn the step-by-step process for applying for SASSA grants and benefits.
Follow these simple steps to apply for your SASSA grant. The application process is free and you should never pay anyone to help you apply.
Anyone who meets the eligibility rules for a particular grant (e.g. age, income, or disability) can apply. You do not need to pay a cent: SASSA does not charge for applications. If you need help understanding the process or finding documents, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit our Official contacts page for more support options.
You must apply in person at a SASSA office or designated service point. When you arrive, you will be asked to complete forms and hand in your documents. Staff may check your ID and proof of income. Queues can be long, especially at month end, so try to go early in the day. Processing usually takes up to three months; you will get SMS updates. Do not leave your original ID with anyone, only copies are required for the application.
